Project FourChat

OK. Because of the audience approval from my proposal in Tetrgi Poll about making my own chatting module like Yaplet, I have started writing one codenamed FourChat! (Name can be changed if it's terrible)

I have written the very basic things into it: You can send messages, have new messages popup with seconds and you can change your name. What I need now is for you, the users, to try it out and tell me what you want in it. Do you want [Private] chatting? Smilies? /me style actions? Profanity filtering? (Well, that'll probably drop in there anyway.... :)) Just let me know by commenting on this post.

Oh yes, nearly forgot. For you to be able to try it, I need to post a link! Silly me! Here's the FourChat for fourisland.com. Thanks!

FourCHat hates me. I saw what you said, I said something and then I couldn't see what I had posted! So I said a few more stuff, and I could only see what I said occasionally. So I refreshed a few more times to see what I have typed, and suddenly all the chat disappears except for Welcome to FourChat and stuff. And I can't type any more stuff. O_O

Oooh, strange. FourChat works pretty well on the dev computer, but it seems that if you send messages too quickly, it fails to display them. I think I know how to fix this and I will be working on it tonight when I get off of Four Island.

You shouldn't have to refresh, at least. There is another known bug when sometimes, FourChat doesn't display anything when it loads. I don't know why it's doing that and I will be looking into it.

I have added a couple new features such as /me and /npc. I will look into the bug mentioned tonight.

Nowadays, I try to access the FourChat but it says "Fatal error: Class 'FITemplate' not found in /svr/www/hatkirby/fourchat/main/index.php on line 14"... :(

I know, I'm sorry, TimTam reported that a week ago but I've been sick all week. Sorry!

If you use FourChat on another site, (I tried Google - http://fourchat.fourisland.com/?url=google.com) it displays SELECT * FROM chat, users WHERE room_id = 3 AND users.id = chat.user_id AND chat.id > ORDER BY chat.id ASC every refresh.

EDIT: It also has problems posting - it doesn't display some messages unless you refresh.

EDIT: By that I mean press the refresh button. Soz for the triple post...

Wow. That was strange. I'll combine your comments into one so it's not spam.

Really? That's strange. I'll have to find out why it does that. I'm so annoyed with FourChat, it's barely working.

Thanks.

Hmm... I tried to make an AJAX chat program once, and it had a similar problem. Mine was just basic POC, though, nothing more than displaying what you just typed - don't worry, I'm not trying to be a bigger geek that you XD

lul Don't worry. :)

I figured out the google thing. Because no one has yet posted on it's FourChat, it fails the SQL query. I really should fix that. Don't know about the other problem, though.

BTW, I'm probably going to add comment editing and deleting capability to Four Island.

Ahh. Interesting. FourChat does have potential - don't give up on it. Editing and deleting will make me happy :D

Well, I sort of have, but don't worry! There's a new project under the name of FourChat planned to be released with Four Island 3.0 that I'm sure will be much better wink :P
