Celeste

Post by hatkirby »

I was talking about Celeste a bit in that thread about my Switch being weird and I thought hey, I should probably just make a thread about Celeste because I'm going to want to talk about it a lot.

Obligatory lead-in: this is my second favorite game ever, I'm trying to do every level deathless, which was the subject of one of the threaded style posts on my blog, as well as a regular post called Madeline in the Mirror Temple.

Anyway, I'm still trying to do 7-b deathless, and I'm getting better! Last night (while I was not sleeping at like 3am) I was doing a couple of attempts and I had this pretty silly situation in the Resort section where I narrowly avoided death like five times:

I know I'm more intense about Celeste than most people here but I'm still interested in hearing about your playthroughs if you like it! And if anyone wants to do online multiplayer with me at any point (Tooth and I were doing this at one point) I'm totally down!

I'm not really good at precision platformers, but I had a friend who wanted me to play it back in... uh, I was living at my last place, and Natalie was there, so probably in the mid twenty teens? I think it was when Celeste first came out, so 2018ish. So about seven years ago?

Seven years ago....

oh god 2015 was a decade ago

anyway! I wasn't really enjoying it the way it was intended to be played, but I did fuck around with the difficulty settings and turned on infinite dashes and do a run of only dashing, no walking. Which was a bit silly and I enjoyed doing. It absolutely took a bit from the story, but I still remember having feeling about climbing that mountain. I think I might like revisiting it at some point, but damn I don't play games much these days. Kinda intimidated to dedicate that much time to it.
Approximately 25% of all animals are beetles. Statistically, this means if you're in a room with three other people, at least one of you is a beetle! If you're having trouble identifying the beetle, remember the acronym BEETLE (Beautiful; Elegant; Eats occasionally; Twinkly-eyed; Loving; Escaped to montana in the spring of 83 after faking their own death, starting anew as "gunne olive", a down on their luck dental nurse seeking to get away from the busy city - and the crime syndicates they owe money to - in the country as a ranch hand).

Honestly I think Celeste deserves a lot of praise for how versatile the Assist Mode is. It's known to be a hard game but they went out of their way to make it accessible to people who don't feel confident at this kind of game and they're still able to get the story. So I don't think you were playing it the wrong way!

Totally understand about not dedicating time to video games though. I definitely spend too much time playing video games, and I've been trying to branch out lately but I cannot deny that it is a big thing for me. Still, it could be fun to noodle around in online multiplayer together at some point, so it'd be Friend Time and not just Video Game Time.

Which also reminds me that you still need to show me Undertale XD

also YEAH that was the same realization I had when I finally got the 5-b golden strawberry and realized that it had taken me seven years to get it. And I'm like-- h- h- how?? I mean part of the problem is that the last five years have gone by more quickly than other years but...

I saw this clip on my desktop and it's pretty good. It's me doing one of the hardest rooms in Farewell, and then immediately dying in the next room (which is a pretty easy room).
