Musics great! Sharing things is great! Themes are great!

Let's share music that fits a theme together!

The idea is that every week I'll pick a theme, and everyone who's interested will pick a handful of songs that fit that theme. The idea is to share 1-5 songs, but I'm not a cop. Make a whole ass playlist if you want. Share a full album. Follow your fucking heart. Babble a bit about each song. Post them with no context. Do what you fucking will, my friend, the thread is full of possibilities.

Linking to the song is great, especially through youtube, bandcamp, or another source that doesn't require an account to listen to the full song. You can link to a song by typing

Code: Select all

Song name
I will try and update the theme every Tuesday, but I make no promises about how good I'm going to be at remembering to do so. Feel free to suggest themes too! Feel free to chat about what other people shared! Have fun! Or don't, I'm still not a cop.

Our first theme is:
Favorite Songs
Approximately 25% of all animals are beetles. Statistically, this means if you're in a room with three other people, at least one of you is a beetle! If you're having trouble identifying the beetle, remember the acronym BEETLE (Beautiful; Elegant; Eats occasionally; Twinkly-eyed; Loving; Escaped to montana in the spring of 83 after faking their own death, starting anew as "gunne olive", a down on their luck dental nurse seeking to get away from the busy city - and the crime syndicates they owe money to - in the country as a ranch hand).

Favorite Songs, in no particular order: Me: rule of thumb is 1-5 songs.
Also me: Fuck that I'm posting twice that many songs.

My first thought was YESSS I love this idea, and my second was OMG CLIPPING !! <33

I love a good list of favorite music! I'll try to include a mix of all-time faves, and current faves:
  • Are You Satisfied? - The Family Jewels - Marina & the Diamonds
    • The Family Jewels is an extremely influential album to me, and while I don't listen to it much anymore (I first heard it in high school), in my heart it is still one of the best albums of all time. It's from a time in Marina's life when she was struggling with issues that were really relatable to me and it feels so emotionally raw. It's hard to pick a favorite track off of it, but Are You Satisfied (the first track) is so singable, so peppy, so sad, and such a good introduction to the rest of the album. And if you like the sound of it, then you've got 14 other songs to listen to! My other faves are Seventeen, Guilty, The Outsider, Hermit the Frog, and Obsessions. You've probably also already heard Oh No!
  • Early Christmas Present - My Best Friend Is You - Kate Nash
    • This is another of my old favorite albums. This song in particular is so fast paced and cheerful sounding, despite being about finding out that your partner cheated on you by contracting an STD.
  • I Will - Night Time, My Time - Sky Ferreira
    • Fave fave fave fave. Definitely grungier than the other kind of music I like, but that's Sky Ferreira. I used to sing this song at my mom in the car. I've been waiting for her next album for over a decade.
  • Make-up Smeared Eyes (Acoustic Version) - Recover EP - Automatic Loveletter
    • An absolute power ballad about a breakup. It's fun to belt this one out at karaoke and slide dramatically down the wall.
  • Memory Reboot (Slowed) - Memory Reboot - VØJ, Narvent
    • I've gone on record saying this should be four hours long and I stand by that.
  • Pavlov's Daughter - 11:11 - Regina Spektor
    • The gravedigger's getting stuck in the machine, the picking's getting slim, slimmer; I hear them say my name: Regina! Regina! Reginah-ah-ah!
  • Home - Cavetown
    • This is a really iconic young Alcor song to me, and it's really emotional.
  • The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - Birdy - Birdy
    • This is a cover of a song by The Postal Service, which I also like, but this cover and this album in general (which is almost entirely covers) is important to me. I listened to it a lot during a very hard time, the 12-year anniversary of which is coincidentally tomorrow.
  • 孤独ノ隠レンボ (Hide and Seek of Isolation) - 150-P
    • This is A-ya's main song from Shuuenpro. It's a cover by an utaite named Himeringo, who I think does a really good job. Probably my favorite song from the project.
  • i think about it all the time - brat - Charli XCX
    • I know everyone in the world knows about brat but I can't deny that this is probably my favorite song and album right now.
I think I should post this now because otherwise I'll go on forever. Looking forward to listening to other ppls music!

I loved The Family Jewels in highschool too! It's a fun album. Guilty of first learning about it from a Oh No! Vriska lyricstuck though.

You're right tho, you should say it, this fucks. I'm going to have to check out some of Narvent's other stuff.

Man I haven't listened to Regina Spektor in a while, I should revisit her. Pavlov's Daughter is great. 11:11 was a good album as a whole.

Damn she put out an album in 2022. Still making music after all this time.

Holy shit I've never listened to this Cave Town song before you're right this is so fucking Alcor.

I wanted to post some really on point lyrics but there's to many of them to choose from.

I wasn't really feeling this song at first, but I really like how it progresses. The singer's voice is lovely.

I don't think I knew you liked The Family Jewels!! It's really embedded in my DNA to the extent, that it feels weird that other people have heard it. Like you're seeing into my soul. Not as much as if you'd listened to any of the songs on Give Me The Money, but still. That's so funny that you heard of it through Homestuck though. Kind of Bees behavior. Is that how you heard of Regina Spektor too.

Sobbing crying throwing up

I haven't listened to Regina's newest album because I'm not as into that kind of music anymore, but her older stuff is still special to me. Soviet Kitsch is in my top albums ever.

I heard Home by Cavetown right around the same time I heard Jackrabbit and they both feel so much like 2019 to me. Home also felt very relatable when I was trying to be asexual. It still feels ridiculously Alcor, like not just the ace stuff, not just the trans masc stuff, but like.... "My eyes went dark, I don't know where my pupils are" huh????? "Get a load of this monster, he doesn't know how to communicate, his mind is in a different place, will everybody please give him a little bit of space" i am GOING to CRY

Birdy has a pretty particular sound. At one point I wrote a TAU analysis of one of her other covers, Young Blood.

Look at them!!! ITSUMO DOORI KOKO KARA HAJIMARU!!!!!!!!! (I know this is from a different song lol)

Ok ok ok ok ok so if you like Charli's sound, I think most of brat is very good, and my other faves are probably 360 and "everything is romantic". But my super favorite Charli songs are from her album True Romance, and I love every song on the album so it's hard to rec just one but the first track Nuclear Seasons is a great intro. This is another 2013 album to me haha. I listened to it After the event though so it's not quite as emotionally charged to me as Birdy.

Ooh I like this. I'm not sure what it is about it. It's just very pretty and epic. Kind of makes me think of Control for some reason.
BeelieveinBees wrote: Tue May 20, 2025 3:12 pm
It means a lot to me that you like this song. It's one of the pieces of art I'm most proud of creating.
BeelieveinBees wrote: Tue May 20, 2025 3:12 pm
This goes hard as hell. It's giving like, a darker Mitski. I have to listen to more of this artist.
BeelieveinBees wrote: Tue May 20, 2025 3:12 pm
I don't listen to enough Will Wood, considering the community I'm in and how much everyone talks about him. He's not exactly the kind of music I usually listen to but this song is good. I know I like the tulpamancer song too. I should give a whole album a try.

Ok wait now I'm paying attention to this lyrics of this song and it's making me insane. What is happening. Help.

I have a Tumblr mutual who likes this game! Omg I hear 100 gecs and Weird Al in this.

  • SC__TER_D - CONSUMED - the garages
    • This song is single-handedly responsible for Blank Slate, which is still rated Most Likely to Not Be Completely Abandoned out of all my fics.
Not quite my cup of tea but yessss Blank Slate, I'm holding onto hope. Plays this song in your head 50 more times.
BeelieveinBees wrote: Tue May 20, 2025 3:12 pm
Wait why do I know this song. *reads your message again*. Okay yeah that's probably why. I still feel like someone showed me this in person though.

I love this!! Here's some of mine:

Obviously Paradise by Gates of Sleep: https://thegatesofsleep.bandcamp.com/track/paradise Had so many fun times singing it with Star in Karaoke, and lately when I visited Cardiff it started playing as we were pulling up to the station and I was like he's here with me :D

Gonna take an immediate swerve with Sims 1 - Build Mode 5 - Now What? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2MFv2xe8yQ just listen to it it's honestly Art to me, like this is embedded in my brain. There are so many Sims 1 and 2 pieces I could have linked but this like. idk it evokes such an Emotion in me I love it.

The Clash - Clampdown rules: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lt4O-EHNnw Good walking song, feels very in the mood of the Current Political Moment

Red Dwarf theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV0hwZwNQZc I wouldn't recommend the show but the theme song slaps so hard, first part is just so dramatic and lonely and then it launches into a great jam

Gorillaz - Don't Get Lost in Heaven + Demon Days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcKzlZHl7PY I'm cheating because this is two songs but honestly they don't feel complete without each other. I could put this whole album on here, I think Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head was my favourite song when I was 6 which is extremely funny if you ever listen to that one. But like man there's a tired optimism to these tracks I really love.

I could go on, I love this thread idea :D
You humor me greatly with your arrogance and contempt, a flood of accusations born from the poison of envy and smite of disrespect. I feel both disappointment and flattery these thoughts would originate from another player who has demonstrated one of a kind talent and has accomplished the impossible, yet is immune from judgment owing to their reputation, do not think your words hold more credibility just because of who you are, being more well known and what you have accomplished in breaking world records and setting ones never previously accomplished. With that being said I will divulge my thoughts on the serious accusations you have set forth.

I won't address the individual gameplay scenarios you've highlighted, as the foundation of your argument arises from jealously, this is clear when you contrast my success with your failure, being deluded into thinking you should have surpassed these trials yet cannot comprehend how someone else can claim victory consistently,

Alright! New week new tunes!

This week's theme is:
A Tad Queer

Post songs that you associate with queerness, for whatever reason. Be it explicitly queer, something you heard in a formative time in your life, something you first heard in a boys love anime, or just a really damn weird song.

Also! If anyone's interested, I can ping you so you get a notification whenever I post a new theme. Just let me know if you'd be interested.

  • Skeleton Life - Lamune-P
    • I was shown this song near the start of the gender Pandora's Box opening for me and it feels very transgender. The lyrics are very wistful and seem to be about wanting to trying your best to find meaning in your life. The video has both Kagamine Rin and Len in it, although it's sung by just Rin, and it gives the vibe of Rin imagining herself as a boy. At least that's how I look at it, and I'm biased.
  • Girls Like Girls - This Side of Paradise - Hayley Kiyoko
    • This is a song by a lesbian called Girls Like Girls. Kind of hard to misinterpret. I especially love this song though because a friend from college made an Utena AMV using it and it's one of the best things I've ever seen.
  • Not Like The Movies - Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
    • Yes I know this is a Katy Perry song. It's not about being queer, but it expresses a disillusionment with the expectations of romance in society, and it's long spoken to me as a queer person. It's really beautiful to me.
  • Transgender - (III) - Crystal Castles
    • This is a pretty dark song, but it speaks to me. Listen for Alice Glass and not Ethan Kath.
I think I don't actually listen to very much queer music. I listen to a lot of pop music by gay icons that I can be like "yassss queen" at, and I listen to weird electronica. I would recommend my friend Emily's album, but she seems to have taken her Bandcamp down.

I think that pop music gay icons count as queer music, or, at least GLBTA+ music. I know you like Lady Gaga and Chappell Roan, I know that they are not cishets, and they write music about their experiences. I'd count them as queer music, unless they've specifically said they don't like that term.

Hell yeah, let's go lesbians! I need to finish Utena. I don't know if I ever will but I definitely should.
