Gravitation Thoughts

I finally finished Gravitation yesterday I watched the DVDs on my PlayStation which I feel the way it is meant to be watched lol.

This is specifically about the anime and not the manga.

The atmosphere and aesthetic of gravitation is kind of immaculate??? I definitely think this is the shows strongest point. Everything from the jrock sound track to the compositing animation with real life footage gives the anime a unique feel. The anime came out in the early 2000s and I think it's also perfect for if you want to be transported to a yaoified version of that time. ALSO THE FASHION IS SO FUCKING GOOD IT SHOULD BE STUDIED FOR THE MET GALA.

I completely understand why this is a yaoi classic.

I also think the writing is pretty compelling and earnest for both the romantic relationships and the characters relationships to art. There are A LOT of gags. I would say it's like a drama and comedy at the same time and I really do mean at the same time like you have Yuki holding a gun while Shuichi is in a doggy costume (also side note surprising amount of guns in this anime???). I genuinely thought it was hilarious most of the time which I was surprised about because I thought the humor would be too dated for me. Additionally, I didn't feel like the humor took away from the earnestness from the serious parts.

Some bad stuff is that there are some pretty bad transmysoginisic jokes and one that lasts like a whole episode??? There is also a black character we briefly who is both drawn like a minstrel character and a rapist so it's pretty bad even if brief :/

So, against my better judgement I downloaded the Paradise port to Android someone made. I don't know a lot about this game. To my understanding you go on vacation and get stuck do fuck freak things or you die (different from room no.9 though). Will keep everyone updated...

Ok so on the start page under the standard Sart, Continue, Settings, ect. Buttons is just a box that says "Easy Mode" and you can set it to off or on... I have it off ... Also when you make a save you can make a short note with your save as well as choose and icon. Most of the icons are men but one is... A shot of cum???

Side note, the port was made in renpy (it is not an official port) and I'm pretty curious how they did this. Like did they just copy and paste the code into renpy and then built it as an android file? I think that is theoretically possible if the whole game was made in Python... I doubt it's that simple but I might look into this for myself because I've become spoiled on handheld visual novels T u T so now breaking out my Big Mac book feels cumbersome for playing something in bed.

Ok so I've been introduced to the men. None are particularly interesting to me, but I'm more interested in this story for the depravity.

Azuma
Protagonist and average conbini wage slave. He's living paycheck to paycheck by, but he has just enough for food, a small apartment, and little bit of savings. An average person in their early 20s. He is pretty laid back and friendly, doesn't really have much aspersions in life.

He wins a lottery ticket to go to a small resort island for a week. It's not like a fancy resort, but there are log cabins with running water and electricity that they all stay in. He was hoping to meet hot girls but alas he is in a yaoi game so everyone else on the trip is men.

Takara
Genki 20 year old. He is the most similar to Azuma in age and demeanor, so they are besties immediately. He's kind of suspicious because he has this heavy ass suitcase that he won't say what's inside??? Also he refuses to talk about his hobbies???

Mitsugi
This dude fucking hates you and IDK why cause he has NO beef with any of the other characters so far > A < he and the protagonist have a "enemies but in a fruity way" thing going on.

Dazai
So this one's name is actually Mastuda, but he has the same voice actor as Dazai from Charade Maniacs. He also really sounds and looks like a more confident and grown up version of Dazai??? Glad you still out here making men fall for you dude. He is a late 20s outdoorsy jock who likes fishing. He and Azuma tease each other back and forth and it's very cute! When I see them I'm like "Yeah, I believe Dazai could awaken some gay feelings in him."

Tour Guide
So the vacation is technically a week long tour of the island, and your tour guide is this cute flashy looking dude!!! He has a sweet and laid back personality which I think is fun considering his looks. He is not actually a love interest but I hope he is a secret love interest or something because I like him.

I knew you could do it Dazai! This scene is very cute where they are having a silly argument and Dazai trips and Azuma catches him and then suddenly they are both kind of silent and stay holding each other for a bit.

Also!!! Tour guide got a very cute scene where Azuma wipes some dirt off his nose and Tour Guide gets all bashful and Azuma is like "whoa his skin is so soft ..." So it is looking like Tour Guide is on the table?

Anyway they lost any contact with the main land and the boat that was supposed to bring them food hasn't shown up :/

Things not going so hot for everyone. Still no contact or boat. They have started to need to ration and forge for food. Protagonist is like "huh I'm still really enjoying my vacation though... I still want to make the most of my vacation despite some bumps in the road" lmao also though it's becoming more and more clear that he's pretty depressed. Like maybe not clinicaly but the dude who hates him was like "Why are you so relaxed? Are you an idiot? Don't you care if you die?" And he was like "nah."

Dazai update, my cabin caught fire and he carried me to safety and held me tenderly while recovering from smoke inhalation .////. kyaaaa
